A BITE OF THE BIG APPLE

24-Hour Glamor

July 17, 2008 · 13 Comments

I can confidently say I’ve experienced the best of magazine life in the past 24 hours. Quiz: Which would you say is the most fabulous?
A) a rooftop cocktail party
B) sitting in on Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour’s talk to the interns
C) guest-blogging at Glamour.com’s “Suze on Style”
D) scoring a Lancome cream blush/lip gloss/eye shadow palette from the beauty bin

Really though, no warning on the blog post. Had I not been in such a rush not to, oh god forbid, be LATE to an AW speech, I probably would have been wearing makeup. And been better-accessorized. Such is life, I suppose.

On the surface, I have the best job ever: fancy parties, schmoozing with magazine-folk, male model appearances in the lobby, dining among size-0’s, occasional free makeup goodies. But when it’s all said and done, it’s just like any other job that I might have. (Right — not any other job that the rest of you might have, because unlike ya’ll, I’ll probably never take one that involve numbers, science, or black pantsuits.) I show up bleary-eyed, chug my morning coffee, look forward to my lunch breaks, feel guilty about taking the full hour, develop major eye-strain from too much quality time with my monitor, and kick off my heels, drained of energy by the end of the day.

Don’t get me wrong… I’m grateful and lucky to be here. But the visions of grandeur you all have are simply that — visions.

Did that make any sense? This may be near-sleepless night #4 now. I have serious issues with going to bed before 3 a.m.

PS: This is totally a Glamour blog strategy, I’ve noticed: Ask a question at the end of the blog post to encourage reader commentary. I am now going to experiment on you.

What’s the most fabulous thing about your job? What is your morning routine when you arrive at your internship? Why am I still awake?

Yeah right, I’m not as subtle about my comment-whore-ism as that. Answer my one-question quiz, damnit. I will… mail you a postcard. As a prize. We all like prizes.

    1) yes it makes sense
    2) i get free snacks and drinks; my boss loves to sing–his favorite song right now is katy perry’s “i kissed a girl”
    3) wake up at 6:50, snooze until 7, get ready/eat and i’m out the door by 7:30 woot woot

I’d have to say sitting in with Anna Wintour is the most fabulous! Your internship, all in all, sound pretty fab. Which magazine are you interning for? Glamour? Haha, I live in Boston, and the other day, the Glamour magazine crew stopped me and my friends on the street and asked to take our picture and do a survey for what we plan on being for Halloween…interesting experience, I must say.

Steph: I love “I kissed a girl!” out the door by 7:30? I wake up at 8:30 and I thought that was terrible.

Erica: Will we be seeing you in the issue / on the website? :) I intern for Glamour. I feel like there’s probably something contractually illegal about admitting this on a site where I also make politically incorrect comments and discuss alcoholic tendencies… but I’m brave like that.

“I kissed a girl” needs to die a horrible, long, drawn-out death complete with the accompanying screams of pain and torture.

I refuse to answer the questions.

Except I have to wear the black pant suit.

My morning routine when I arrive at my internship is 1) wonder where my boss is 2) turn on the computer and check my e-mail/blogs 3) kill trees.

The most fabulous part of my job is the UCLA jellybeans.

omg i’m kind of envious of your internship right now.

i heard about the anna wintour supposedly talk to the interns, but i thought it was only for vogue? uggh, i actually thought about going just because i doubt all the interns know the other interns in the other departments!! how was it? what’d she talk about. fill me in. lol

love that you got to guest blog! that’s so awesome. PS: i didn’t want to comment on the website, but you def look the best dressed. the other intern outfits kind of look sloppy imo. haha, anyways. uggh. you guys had the beauty sale thing today right? i think i passed a sign while walking to the printer. wish i could have been there!

    best,
    jess chu

    OMG. “I Kissed A Girl”.
Nuuu. Do NOT mention that song.
This kid at the class I’m going to sung that song for three hours straight yesterday.

    Woo I’m a minor!
So I’m not going to answer your questions. Ahaha.

  • Teresa // July 19, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Wow clearly I need to ask more questions at the end of my posts… hahaha.

    Transient: Sorry about the pantsuit.

Jon: Your comments always contribute absolutely nothing. (The girl in the first pic is cute???) Kidding.

Amy: Jellybeans make a fabulous perk. We only have coffee, and Lipton tea. I’m too pretentious to drink Lipton.

Jess: Pretty certain we’re not supposed to “talk about it” (probably could get in trouble for this post, tough) but feel free to e-mail me. You should have gone–no attendance or anything. I’m at my other internship on Thursdays, so I missed the beauty giveaway. SUCKS.

Stitchbunny: What does being a minor have to do with anything? :)
